To turn something into a novel. This usually refers to a book that is based on a film, rather than the usual process which is the reverse. Some novelizations are good, such as "Sneakers," others bad, such as (unfortunately) "Ever After", some very popular, such as the Star Wars books. The difference between a good and bad novelization hinges on whether the story of the movie is even capable of being told in a written format. Bonus points for a novelization that (with authorization) doesn't just describe the action of the movie, but instead adds deep background and gives more depth to the characters, doing the things that are possible in novels but not so much in movies. Not all movies receive the novelization treatment; others that are unexpected hits may get it a bit late, as in the case of "The Matrix."
