Greek. A practice which is a matter of tradition or convention; something manufactured by human minds, and not dictated by nature. An example of nomos which I always remember as being particularly good is that, in the United States, we drive on the right side of the road. Things like this are a matter of nomos, convention. There is nothing about the universe which says that we must drive on the right; it is a man-made rule. Compare to physis.
