The primary
reason for riding a motorcycle has nothing to do with
convenience, or
economics, even though it would satisfy both of them as requirements.
My first motorcycle was a mid-size cruiser. A Yamaha Virago 1100 cc. It got about 33 miles per gallon doing almost nothing but rush hour city driving. On the Highway,
it was more like 50 mpg (hadn't actually measured)
It accelerated faster than almost any car (and as far as bikes go, its not all that powerful. Its a cruiser not a sports bike). It fits through spaces that cars can't.
Oh and parking has never been easier.
Price wise, a new bike can be had for half the price of a new car (on average; I have seen really nice brand new bikes for about $6,000). I can easily carry a couple of loads of laundry, and I don't even have saddle bags.
Of course, the true reason for motorcycling is the fun of it. Its an excuse to get out of the house. It clears the mind and is just plain fun. Going down roads that you might otherwise never travel down. Seeing the country, smelling the fresh air.
Just remember "Chrome wont get you home, but it might get you laid".
