A blend of two materials -- usually a ceramic suspended inside a metal base. Originally developed for military applications such as ICBM bodies, etc., and now used by companies such as Specialized for racing bicycles. Most of them are based around aluminum and are either fiberous or granular in type, referring to the form of the ceramics.
