A main battle tank is the largest and most lethal class of armored vehicles, designed to take on and defeat other main battle tanks, from the front if need be. Modern MBTs include the American M1 Abrams series, the Russian T-84 and T-72, the French Leclerc, the German Leopard, the British Challenger II, and the Israeli Merkava among others. Typically armed with a smoothbore cannon of at least 105mm (although most sport 120mm or larger) as well as a plethora of smaller weapons for antipersonnel and antiaircraft work.
