Maybe sometimes a person when they are lying they do it to people they really care deeply about so that when the person has to move on (as they inevitably do...) that it is easier to make the
separation. Perhaps it is easier to
distance someone, knowing that if you come closer to them, you are going to have to
reveal that you lied before and that is too
difficult. If that is the case then the lie keeps you
detached, it hangs there like a
forcefield protecting the one you cherish from you and in a rather sick and twisted way protecting you from the consequences of
facing yourself.
Perhaps it is just a self defence mechanism after all - and the only thing that can get past it is the act of understanding, and then forgiveness.
