Security term for an exploit/attack that gives a user local root access on a computer. (Local root access means that the user, if physically present or logged in, has full access to the system.) Under non-UNIX systems, the term Administrator is preferred to root, but the concept remains the same.

Examples of local root compromises:

• Windows 98 - Anyone who can sit at the machine has full control
• DebPloit - A program that exploits debugging on Windows NT/2000 to get admin privileges
• getadmin - (Can't remember how it works; will node later)
• Any of countless recover lost password nodes/programs
