In the Catholic Church, the colors of the vestments and decorations of the Church are dictated by the particular place in the Liturgical Calendar, which begins on Easter and ends with the Triduum. Since the time of Pius V (16th century pope), the colors have oficially been five: white, red, green, violet, and black. Also, the colors rose and blue are used on special occasions. Here are the liturgical uses of all of these colors:

Black:

  • Good Friday (though red is often used)
  • Funerals (though white is used for the most part nowadays, at least in America)
