A knarr was a Norse cargo ship, about 50 feet long and 15 feet wide. It had a square sail on one mast, and a deeper keel than Viking warships.

The cargo and supplies were lashed down in the middle of the ship, which did not have a space below deck.

Norse merchants traded goods all through the Baltic, into Russia, Greenland, England, and sometimes into the Mediterranean.
