In ichthyology, a caudal fin of a bony fish (Osteichthys) where the vertebral column terminates in several fused vertebrae (as in a homocercal tail) but the fin extends completely around the tail lobe (as in a protocercal or diphycercal tail). Examples are eels and cod.
