An indoor greenhouse that often looks like a fish tank, sold and promoted growing tomatos, but practically applied to grow sticky green bud, otherwise known as cannabis or weed. Some people steal hydro power and have huge basement weed operations, often the pigs or local biker gangs are involved.

Hydroponics is also the only time during Botany class that everyone in the room wakes up. Hydroponics is the cultivation of plants in nutrient rich solution rather than soil. Hydroponics is a highly studied field and is used on the space shuttle. In Star Wars, Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen was the owner of a hydroponic station. It took water from various sources on the planet and was a giant enclosed farm.
Also in EPCOT in Disney World, in Orlando, Florida on a special exhibit called The Land, they have major hydroponic operation going on. The food grown there is also sold there.

The cultivation of plants in a liquid nutrient solution instead of soil.

A carefully prepared aqueuous solution of all the nutrients required for healthy growth is used, usually in conjunction with an inert medium (such as sand or gravel) which provides support for the plant's root system.

On a small scale, the solution is simply poured over the substrate and the excess allowed to drain into containers for re-use.

On a commercial scale, this is done by an automatic pumping system in which the solution is monitored to maintain nutrient levels and acidity.

Hydroponics enables crops to be grown in arid regions, or where the soil is infertile or polluted / toxic. However, its comparatively high costs are a limiting factor, and hence almost all hydroponics work is with high value plants such as vegetables and flowers.
