Chinese term referring to immortals, those who have transcended earthly desire and yadda yadda yadda. Pronouced "shane."

Also a Mandarin Chinese term meaning county. (Romanization does not do Chinese justice; it loses tone and it also loses a lot of the meaning imparted by Characters, hence hsien could mean a lot of things, for instance there is also hsien as in hsien dzai, meaning "right now").

Hsien (?), n. [Chin.]

An administrative subdivision of a fu, or department, or of an independent chow; also, the seat of government of such a district.
