holy minimalists

A term used in reference to a group of composers: John Tavener, Henryk Gorecki, James MacMillan, and Arvo Pärt, et al. They're not minimalist, but they share with minimalism an "easy listening" aspect abandoned in European music - by romanticism, Vienna (Schönberg, et al), Darmstadt (Stockhausen, Boulez, Berio...), and their progeny. The "holy" part? They're motivated by devout religious beliefs - Catholicism, for Gorecki/MacMillan; the Orthodox Church, for Pärt/Tavener.
