The Latin word for kangaroo, the plural being, of course, halmaturi. An alternative name would be macropus (which, to some interpretations, means 'big wuss'). It might seem fairly simple at first, but notice that kangaroos are found only in Australia, while Romans are found only in Europe. This is an example of how gargantuan ancient trade routes were as well as how ridiculously motivated the Romans were to obtain exotic animals for their gladiatorial battles and meanageries. I don't believe they had boxing gloves at the time (though they did have the cestus), so those images of kangaroos beating the shit out of Classical armor-clad purveyors of gory entertainment shouldn't be mixed with those images of kangaroos beating the shit out of modern heavyweight champions.
