A concept closely related to free software; the idea that software is a form of human expression that deserves the same free speech protections as other forms of expression, such as the spoken word, and published writings. Accepting this principle in full leads to the conclusion that the government (at least a government in a relatively free society) may not ban the expression particular ideas in software.
