An unintended and generally unfortunate event which has the audacity to occur despite overwhelming odds against it, or despite the overwhelming oddity of it. What distinguishes a freak accident from a normal accident is this last component, thus: a car running in to another car in traffic is an accident, while a crate of bananas falling out of a plane and crushing a pedestrian to death is a freak accident.
