A "four by twelve" is a speaker cabinet containing 4 12-inch speakers typically used in conjuction with a
guitar amp. Two 4x12s stacked one on top
of the other with a guitar amp on top of that is known as a "full stack", a single 4x12 cabinet and a guitar amp are known as a "half stack" The "full stack" was popularized
by Pete Townshend.
