A hormone released by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. One of the gonadotrophins, the other being leuteinizing hormone (LH).

In males, this plays a part in sperm production.

In females, FSH stimulates maturation of ovarian follicles and starts the process that leads to ovulation.
