An interesting form of traffic light in the United States. A flashing green light indicates a location where there is no vehicular cross traffic, but there is a pedestrian crosswalk which may trigger a change to a red light.

These are a source of much confusion to visitors from communities without them.

You can find a flashing green light in Somerville, MA, on Beacon St.

At least in Canada, this means that if you are making a left turn, you have the right-of-way over vehicles in the opposite direction. All of the newer traffic lights seem to have green arrows for this situation, but there's still a lot of old flashing ones. This confusion is probably why a lot of people sit there without moving when they encounter a flashing green light.
