A fissure eruption is an "eruption that takes place from an elongate fissure" (Bates and Jackson, 1980, p. 232).


fissure eruptions are common along mid-ocean ridges where they produce underwater pillows of expanding lava, and in Hawaii where they often can produce curtains of fire along the fissure.
