A circuit capable of controlling the amplitude of an input signal in a periodic way, which adds modulation to the input signal. Often used to simulate the envelope of acoustic instruments. Simple EG's use an ADSR scheme (attack, decay, sustain, release), where each parameter lasts a set time. An EG might be triggered (started) manually, or be free-running.
