To scold or reprimand someone is to dress them down--usually performed by an individual of higher social rank on one of lesser rank.

A dress down is a designated day at a school or workplace with a rigorous dress-code where students/employees are permitted to wear casual clothing. In the case of a school, it is often a fundraising activity and students pay a small fee to participate. To be dressed down means to be wearing casual garb.
