A term used to describe people who were exposed to radioactive fallout while living downwind from nuclear test sites or nuclear reactors. For example, some children living near the Hanford Atomic Reservation site in the late 1940s were exposed to over 2000 rads as a consequence of drinking cow's milk which contained Iodine-131. Fallout can also expose at a great distance; following one Nevada test two days later, radioactive rain fell in Troy, NY.
