A plant that grew from a di-cotyledon seed. Typically they have branching roots, and have branching veins in their leaves. Opposed to monocot. Examples include most bean plants, peas, and most fruit-bearing plants.

Monocots are a class of angiosperms that have two seed leaves.

Here are some of the major differences:

• two cotyledons
• netted venation of leaves
• vascular bundles are arranged in rings
• taproot system
• floral parts usually in multiples of four or five

Examples of dicots:

• roses
• peas
• buttercups
• sunflowers
• oaks
• maples
