A brown sugar, light in colouring, normally used in Europe for sweetening coffee and some deserts. Easily purchased in 500g bags.

Demerara sugar has a luscious caramel-like aroma. It is a unique sugar, in that it actually tastes like sugar, rather than the pure sweetness of refined white sugar. In Australia Demarara is primarily produced in northern Queensland, the northern state whose other major product is racism.
