dear reader

An endearing name that writers use to address their audience in an essay or story. Often used to make the voice of the writer more humane, and thus get the reader to agree with his point of view.

Usage : "...so obviously, school vouchers are the way to go. And, being the intelligent person you are, dear reader, I'm sure you agree with me..."
