Dark Jedi are not all Sith Lords. The Sith were an empire all their own, long before the Old Republic got going. They had their own tradition of use of The Force, including uses which would later be labeled part of the Dark Side.

A Dark Jedi is simply any Jedi, with or without training in the Sith tradition, who came to fall under the influence of the Dark Side.
