Banned in the United States by the 8th Amendment to the Constitution:

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Examples include (but are not limited to): being sodomized in prison, forced exposure to boy bands, and hangovers.
