A cosmic dualism is a
religion in which there are two
universal powers. Typically, one represents
good and the other represents
evil. The most prominent example of this
philosophy can be found in
Zoroastrianism, which has two original
spirits:
Ahura Mazda, the
Eternal and Uncreated, the
Wise Lord, and
Angra Mainyu, Uncreated but not
Eternal, the
Evil Spirit. It is worth noting that this notion of dualism was a major influence in the development of both
Christianity and
Islam, although the dualism in both these religions (and in
Zoroastrianism itself, according to some interpretations) is a
spiritual dualism rather than a cosmic dualism.
