A traditional dance from which American's get square dance, and related to English country dance. Popular in New England and both coasts of the US. Live music, from French-Canadian music to old-time music. It's a partner dance, danced in long lines to an upbeat tempo.

A dance in which the partners are arranged face to face, or in opposite lines.
