Congas are large, deep latin drums which are typically either seen as a pair on stands, or slung singly over a shoulder. Similar to most latin percussion instruments, they are played with hands rather than sticks, and have skin heads. Authentic congas are wooden shelled, although many modern drummers use congas with fiberglass shells, to reduce the risk of breakage when transporting them.
