composite volcanoes (also known as stratovolcanoes) have a conduit system through which magma flows from reservoirs deep within the earth and erupts through one or a cluster of vents (central vent) within the crater. when the volcano erupts, ash, cinders, large rocks and lava build up steep-sided, symmetrical cones.
