An edited arrangement of striking passages collected in a single place for future reference.

In Medieval and Renaissance times, readers copied their favorite poems, quotes, passages from literature, and scriptural writings into their commonplace book. The copied material was commonly organized by category (topic) and studied for inspiration and enlightenment. Occasionally marginal notes and comments would be added as well.

By the 1800's preprinted collections were readily available, replacing the earlier, more personalized collections. These preprinted collections of 'Instant Wisdom' remain popular even today.

Noder's Note: Hmm.. E2 would seem ideal for a consensual project of this nature. Anyone want to help? /msg me Somebody with editorial powers would be helpful to clean the dross.
