Close at hand is an expression that means literally nearby but can have several undertones.


    For example:
  • Having your family "close at hand" means that they are easily accessible. They are close but you may choose not to see them every day.
  • Meanwhile, when death is "close at hand", it is domination your life. Not only is it nearby, it's also unavoidable.
