Clindamycin (klin-da-MYE-sin) is used to treat bacterial infections, such as strep and tonsillitus. The normal dosage for this medicine is 150-300mg every six hours, orally. Clyndamycin can be taken with or without food. For injection, normal dosage is 600-800mg every eight hours. For infants and children, dosages vary by body weight.

Clindamycin is most effective when there exists a constant amount of the medicine in the blood stream. Missed doses should be taken immediately, but never doubled.

This medicine can cause extreme diarrhea. Medicines, such as Imodium A-D or Lomotil, may make your diarrhea worse or make it last longer. Kaopectate tablets or Diasorb can be taken in the milder case. However, stronger medicines may keep clindamycin from being absorbed into the body. Therefore, you should not take stronger medicines with clindamycin. The best suggestion would be to take these medicinces two to three hours before or after your dosage of clyndamycin. Another diarrhea combatant is Acid Dophilus, which can be bought at most health food stores.

Other side effects: sensitive stomach, cramps, pain, sore throat, skin rash, redness, itching, weird bruising or bleeding.
