Cinder cone volcanoes are the simplest type of volcano. As an eruption occurs, lava is ejected which then congeals and falls as cinders (or scoria) around and downwind of the vent, forming a loose, uncemented, steep-sided cone-shaped volcano with a bowl-shaped crater.
