The chacarero is a sandwich. It is originally of Chilean origin, I'm told. I get mine from a sandwich stand here in Boston named, oddly enough, Chacarero. For those of you who are local, the stand is on the back side of Filene's, just south of Washington street, right near the Downtown Crossing T stop's eastern exit.

Sorry. So what is it? Besides yummy, that is. This version, which has been confirmed by a Chilean national to be authentic, consists of:

  • Homemade bread - a flat, tasty roll about 7" across sliced in half for sandwiching (whaddya mean it's not a verb?)
  • Grilled chicken and beef - you can have either, or a combo, which I am now
  • Muenster cheese
  • Tomato slices
  • String beans
  • Condiments:
    • Salt
    • Pepper
    • Lemon (just a touch)
    • Avocado spread
    • The Mysterious Yummy Green Hot Sauce...from HELL!

It's incredibly tasty, and only US $6.00 for a large (7" which is just fine for me, and I'm a big boy). In any case, I deemed this worthy of a node because my Chilean contact informs me that they are a standard item in Chilean fast food. So if you're at a loss for lunch in Santiago, ask for a pollo chacarero!
