A thank-you note written after staying at someone's home.

I've never heard this expression used in actual conversation, but when I used bread and butter as an example to explain E2 to my mother, she suggested I should node "bread and butter note" too.

So has anyone ever heard this *used* at all? When, where, and in what context?
