A type of hair clip used to keep hair in place. Usually has two sides hinged together (or one piece of material bent in half), with one plain side intended to go under the hair and one decorated side meant to be visible on top of it. Small ones come in sets, one for either side of the head, or a large number for the ends of many small ponytails; the larger barrettes are usually worn singly at the back of the head.
