The unwelcome opposite of good news. Often no news is good news, but on the other hand no news can be bad news as well. Andrew Loog Oldham once said "To the Rolling Stones, bad news is good news." It's exactly this kind of obfuscation on the part of the English that led to the War of 1812.

This phrase can also be used as an adjective to describe someone whose presence can only mean trouble. "That cat's bad news," you may say.

1980s heavy metal band in the Spinal Tap vein, seen in two shows of the British TV series The Comic Strip ("Bad News" and "More Bad News" during the earlier part of the decade. There are two British albums which have been combined into one American release put out some time after the shows (both include as much studio chatter as music). Brian May of Queen produced some of the tracks, including their interesting cover version of "Bohemian Rhapsody." The band consists of Vim Fuego, Den Dennis, Colin Grigson, and Spider Webb.
