I think the important distinction between normal sunglasses and sunglasses for an aviator/pilot is that they don't have any curve or angle at the point which goes over your ears. The idea being that with a bulky helmet on it would be near impossible to place or remove such hooks over your ears. Aviator glasses just go straight over your ears and just go far enough back that the contour of your head holds them in place.
