A number that expresses how many people, in a given group, don't perform in a desired way. For example, in the context of education attrition rate could be the rate of students per year that stop attending school because they drop out, withdraw or transfer to some other place. In the military context, it expresses the number of casualties ("dead people") per time unit in a given unit.
