Assault on a civil servant

An American legal concept which basically states that attacking someone employed by the American government is a worse criminal offense than attacking another plain citizen. Some, if not most, jurisdictions have this concept. It is typically seen invoked in cases where, for example, a public school student punches one of his public school teachers. Ironically, a student in a private school can attack his teachers and get off with a lesser offense.

This is different from assault on a law enforcement officer.
