One who writes aphorisms - maxims, easily remembered, designed to improve your life in some way or another. Examples: Benjamin Franklin ("Early to bed, early to rise..."), author of Poor Richard's Almanack; Theodor Adorno ("He who has laughter on his side has no need of proof"), of Minima Moralia fame; Solomon ("A man of understanding holds his tongue"), to whom much of Proverbs is attributed, though it may just be his divinely-inspired collection of Middle Eastern wisdom.
