Anti-radiation missiles home in on the radar signals from unfriendly surface to air missile launchers and anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) sites. They do this in order to discourage those platforms from tracking and shooting at friendly aircraft. Normally this is done as part of a SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) mission.
