Also called Trip Hop.

A name given by the music industry to music inspired by Hip Hop, but exploring a slower groove. Characterised by down-played rhythms and slow deep beats.

The sounds of ambient hip hop originated in Bristol with Massive Attack in 1988, however the term didn't come into being until a few years later.
