A
usenet newsgroup for discussing, you guessed it,
conspiracy. I
don't know how it is nowadays, but when I
frequented it (
circa 1994-
1995), it
was like stepping into an
alternate reality. Or rather, several
alternate realities, since it seemed like there was a
conspiracy theory
for anything and all the
regulars of the group lived in a
universe of their own. You would meet
survivalists,
redneck gun nuts,
UFO freaks,
discordians,
JFK buffs,
holocaust deniers, and people who would calmly insist that the
world really was
flat. After a while, it got
kinda hard to stay
cool and figure out who was serious and who was not, so eventually I
bailed out to preserve my
precious sanity.
The newsgroup is still around, though I know not what state it's
in. Since usenet overall has gone downhill in recent years, I
don't think it'd be worth it.
