Antibodies that perform the task of enzymes, ie. they catalyze biological reactions by several million times. They were first successfully applied in 1986 to a mammalian immune system by two independent research teams. Also used to repair genetic damage caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Future uses include cutting and splicing proteins and viruses, deactivating and purifying toxic chemicals, and creating drugs with fewer side effects.
