Abessive
case is used in certain languages (particularly
Finno-Ugric languages) to mark a
lack or
absence of the
noun it is marking. The English
prepositional equivalent is "
without". It is synonymous with "
caritive" case.
An example is the
Finnish word "venee
ttä", meaning "without a boat".
