The file that GCC produces if you compile a binary in Linux without the -o . Script kiddies know this name well.

An old name for the a.out format, in which legacy compilers used to make. a.out was the de-facto binary format for the Linux 1.x series kernels. Starting with the 2.x kernels, Elf took precedence, because it was dynamically linked, to system libraries instead of statically linked.
